i’m toni, a katonah yoga teacher based in berlin.
i did my first teacher training in 2018 with anton brandt and the sacred fig in bali. that's where i was introduced to the katonah yoga material for the first time. after graduating from training, i immediately started my certification process to become a katonah yoga teacher. i studied with dages juvelier keates, abbie galvin, alex sharry and nevine michaan. i’ll be forever grateful to be able learn from such powerful and inspiring humans and amazed by the potency of this material.
katonah yoga is a hatha based practice from new york, developed by nevine michaan over the last 45 years. it incorporates chinese medicine, taoist theory, geometry, metaphor, mythology and imagination.
the practice includes themes like asana as origami, manipulating form for function and to develop a sense of personal measure in order to be able to look around yourself and to be well adjusted.
the theory is based on three principles:
all polarities are mediated by trinity.
the universe has pattern, pattern implies intelligence.
by virtue of repetition there is potential for insight.
katonah yoga invites us to question our habituals and shows where you normally go, and where you don’t. it gives you a map that helps you orient and direct yourself in time and space. it asks you to explore new perspectives and angles within and around your body and to notice how that translates from your practice into your life experience. katonah yoga puts you in the center of your circumstances and gives you tools and techniques to live a good life and ultimately to find joy.
